TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D opens nationwide January 4th, 2013!!

Lionsgate’s TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace.  The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible.  Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends.  Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had.  After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 on Blu-ray September 11, 2012

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (Blu-ray)
From the director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this ghastly and hilarious (Variety) sequel descends into your deepest, darkest fears as a wacked-out lawman goes after human meat-cutters with his own high-octane chainsaws in a horrific showdown with the legendary leatherface and his entire cannibalistic family. For 14 years, former Texas Ranger Lefty Enright (Oscar® nominee* Dennis Hopper, Hoosiers) has been obsessed with finding the psychotic mass-murderers who killed his brother's children. And today he's in luck. A tough as nails late-night disc jockey (Caroline Williams, Days of Thunder) has caught the ghouls on tape in the act of slicing and dicing a couple of fun-loving rich kids. When she volunteers to help, Lefty persuades her to play the tape on-air to lure the maniacs out of hiding. But what she doesn't know is that she's the only witness to this diabolical family's butchery who hasn't been carved up for somebody's supper just yet!

Homeland Season One DVD Review

There are a few shows every season that catch my attention, but even fewer that I actually watch. With Homeland, the one reaction that everyone had besides the whole “You should watch this” was “this show is f***ing bananas.” Homeland makes it’s way to DVD today, so it’s a perfect time to see what I’ve been missing.

And I can say, it is definitely bananas, and intense. Every episode is a pulse-pounding psychological joyride. The story centers around CIA agent Carrie Mathison played by Claire Danes, and returning war hero Sergeant Nicholas Brody, played by Damian Lewis. Danes’ Mathison, still haunted by the events of 9/11 fears that Brody has turned against his country. She’s fearless, determined, and completely unpredictable. This is unlike anything Danes’ has ever played before, and she is flawless. Lewis’ Brody, is a Marine returning home with PTSD and after spending his last eight years in hell as an al-Qaeda prisoner it’s no surprise he’s having a hard time adjusting back to his normal life. Lewis is perfection  planting seeds of doubt at every turn.

The entire assemebled cast is pretty amazing, but with material like this it’s no surprise that this show has become a crowd favorite. It comes from the producers of 24, but it outperforms 24. The plotlines are tighter, and smarter than 24, which was a long time favorite of mine. It has the same addictive quality of that show, while being remarkably unpredictable. It’s not chockfull of adrenalin, but rather a more cerebral, character driven storyline.

The conversion to Blu Ray is phenomenal. The Bonus features on the Blu Ray include Deleted Scenes, Audio Commentary, a Making of, and probably the best item: A prologue to Season 2. If season one was an addictive intellectual bout of crazy, season 2 looks to continue on the same page.

If you haven’t checked out Homeland yet, this is one that should definitely be watched, and now that it’s on DVD and Blu Ray there’s no excuses. Not only did it win 2 Golden Globes,  2012 Golden Globe® Best Television Series — Drama; Claire Danes, Best Actress in a Television Series — Drama, it’s well deserving of them.

Jeepers Creepers on Blu-ray September 11, 2012

Jeepers Creepers (Blu-ray)
You can keep your doors locked. You can keep your eyes closed. But still, he’ll get what he wants and what he wants is you. Brace yourself for “90 minutes of steadily mounting horror [that] delivers more than its share of honest chills“ (The Baltimore Sun). From “the scariest opening sequence of any horror picture in recent memory“ (Los Angeles Times) to “one of the gutsiest endings to a film this year“ (Dallas Morning News), Jeepers Creepers is the real deal in terror! On a desolate country highway, two homeward-bound teens (Gina Philips, Living Out Loud and Justin Long, TV’s “Ed“) are nearly run off the road by a maniac in a beat-up truck and later spot him shoving what appears to be a body down a sewer pipe. But when they stop to investigate, they discover that the grisly reality at the bottom of that pipe is far worse than they could have ever suspected and that they are now the targets of an evil far more unspeakable and unstoppable ’than they could have ever imagined!

Check out the Bonus True Blood Clip from the Season Finale

HBO posted an online clip after the show, revealing what happened to Jason, Tara, Jessica, Pam and Nora  after they entered the elevator and escaped the lower level of the Authority.

The scene, below, shows the group saying goodbye to Sookie and Eric, who stay behind to find Bill, and we all know how that crazy mess ended, i.e. enter Billith.
When the elevator doors close, Jessica tries to comfort Jason, telling him that Sookie is going to be ok, but Nora cautions them that they don't have time for sentiment.

Tara tells Pam, "You better not go and get yourself killed, you hear? ‘Cause you and I’ve got a date. It’s been a long time coming."
Pam responds, "If that’s not an impetus to survive, I don’t know what is."

It's been great to see the spunk back in Tara this season, and although I saw this one coming a mile away,  but I'm still not sold on this relationship.

The group continues to lock and load, stakes passed around for all.
Jason, the only human in the steel box, is being extra twitchy, staring down his allies like they're the enemies. He gives his friends a total creeper look, as he scans the area, clearly seeing or hearing something none of the rest of them are but then the doors open and its time to focus on killing the bad guys.

They file out, and take down the vampire that comes. Jason continues to scan, "I’m coming for you, Warlow," he says.
Nora responds: "Warlow? What do you know about Warlow?"
Jason gives her a wtf look.

And that kiddies really is the end of this season of True Blood.  So it looks like next season Pam and Tara will give it a go and maybe become more than just maker and progeny, all the ground Jason made through the seasons to be less of an idiot will be lost as he works out his vampire hating issues, and the hunt for Warlow will continue, probably with a little intel from Nora.

What did you think of the bonus clip? Sound off in the comment section below.

Bad Education S1E3 - "Self Defence" Recap

Alfie has his pupils stand on his desk and say "Oh Captain, my Captain" right as Rosie comes in to tell him about a staff meeting. Fraser tells them he misunderstood a rule about religious symbols and that he'll have to return some pieces he took from students. Rosie tells the staff about a news story regarding a video game called "Tokyo Sin SS" in which children play ninjas that hunt down and murder Nazi prostitutes. It's apparently causing an increase in violence since the children are mimicking the moves. They discuss whether they should ban the game and Fraser suggests that they play it to better understand how to keep kids from being addicted to it.

Alfie returns to his class and finds most of his pupils half-asleep after playing Tokyo Sin. He asks them to bring weapons to lunch to turn in to the Weapons Amnesty event that Rosie will be putting on. The elder art teacher Mrs. Mollinson becomes addicted to the violence of Tokyo Sin. Alfie is annoyed by Ron, the man in charge of the weapons amnesty bin but is forced to back down because he is a police officer. Alfie's students arrive to submit their versions of weapons, such as fingernails, books (knowledge is power), milk (lactose-intolerance), and prove to be little help for the event.

Grayson throws macaroni and cheese on Stephen upon learning of his lactose-intolerance. Stephen responds with a powerfully fierce dance-spin-kick to his face. A food-fight/brawl breaks out, which proves to be bad publicity for the school. Fraser is busy confiscating make-shift ninja masks that several students have been wearing. He proposes they have a self-defence course for the students and Rosie suggests Ron be the one to teach it, much to the displeasure of Alfie.

Alfie tries to tell his pupils they should turn the other cheek when confronted with violence. Fraser calls Alfie out to introduce him to Preet, a man from his gym who will be teaching a course on self-defence. He proves to be wildly inappropriate and rather crazed in his methods. Headmistress Pickwell begins playing Tokyo Sin and becomes addicted to it.

Preet has Alfie be his partner in his demonstration and continues to inflict bodily harm on him, including grabbing onto his bollocks, beating him with a baton, and attempts to tase him before Alfie gets the taser and uses it on Preet himself. Preet ends up arrested by Ron.

Alfie heads to the staff lounge and finds Pickwell wearing a makeshift ninja mask, still playing the game. She hisses at him before he turns the game off and takes the controller from her hands, though she continues her movements as if she is playing the game. Alfie tries to give Joe a copy of the game since he was the only one without it but Joe then tells him the new trendy game is one called Murder Blade.

Bad Education airs on Tuesdays on BBC Three.

Author Discovers E-book Fans Avoid Signings

With so many books going to electronic format, readers now have their favorite fix with the click of a button for every type of story from both debut authors and best sellers. But what's happening to the book lover's special keeper shelf of signed novels by favorite authors?

It's empty, because E-fans have nothing to ask an author to sign.

New York Times bestseller Dianna Love has noticed the trend. For the past two years, e-book readers who did attend her signings often apologized for not buying the print edition. Some asked her to sign their e-reader covers, or the device itself. Others would slink up looking embarrassed, asking her to autograph a piece of paper, since they already owned an electronic copy of her books.

Love has discovered that e-book fans feel alienated because many bookstores now require the reader to purchase the new release at their store in order to attend a signing, reading, or author event. That's understandable since bookstores need to cover expenses, but E-Fans still feel the pinch of being left out.

"With the publishing industry in constant flux, there's one thing that should never change," says Love. "The reader is the most important part of our business. I'm a reader too, and I'm always looking for ways to do something special for my fans, because they deserve it."

Love has been giving out glossy postcards of her book covers to fans for the past two years, and this month she launched The Keeper Kase™ program for all fans, especially e-book fans. She's giving away Keeper Kase Cards™ of her books at signings and at her websitewww.AuthorDiannaLove.com, giving fans a new way to collect memorabilia from their favorite authors.

She's created a special Keeper Kase™ E-Fan page at www.KeeperKase.com telling readers how to get signed cards - free. Other authors are climbing on board with Love's program for E-fans, and thewww.KeeperKase.com page includes a list of authors offering free Keeper Cards to fans as well.
During Love's upcoming September book tour for her latest urban fantasy, The Curse, co-authored with #1 NYT bestseller Sherrilyn Kenyon, Love will ride her motorcycle to speak at locations that welcome all readers, regardless of the format they choose to read. She'll sign her new release, the free cover cards of her books, or the many other items readers bring to signings.

Love expects that by this time next year, book cover cards for a reader's Keeper Kase™ will be a standard offering from many authors to E-Fans.

Dark Horse Horror: Get Creepy This Fall...‏

True Blood Recap: Save Yourself

Tonight, marks the season finale, and I can't say that this has been my favorite season, but I'm really hoping that tonight doesn't jack my whole watching world.

The fairies band together for one heck of a light show, and Russell enjoys the tickly sensation it gives him. He’s enjoying it a little too much, when out of no where Eric grabs him to stake him, and as he finally gets his vengeance thrusting the stake home all that light causes Russell to melt from the inside, and explode. Goodbye Russell, it’s been fun, and I’ll miss your brand of crazy, but both Eric and I enjoyed your death more than we thought we would. Steve Newlin runs off, and Nora arrives. She wants nothing more than to eat Sookie, as she goes to check on Jason, but Eric will not allow her to touch Sookie. Jason awakens and poor thing has had his little brain scrambled, and sees his dead momma instead of Sookie.

Bill is unhappy to see Sam. Sam explains that he came for Luna's daughter which Newlin has taken, and Bill doesn’t care, he’s ready to kill him. Sam changes into a fly and gets away. Bill gives chase, like a cat hopped up on catnip but Sam outmaneuvers him.

Nora wonders why she never encountered a fairy, and Eric points out that she’s been a bit too power hungry. Eric and Nora remove a bunch of hidden money, and Tara spills the news about Pam being taken by the authority as she grabs some light tight coffins. Nora doesn’t want to risk her life for a former prostitute, but Eric points out that she is his progeny, and they’re going after her. He reminds her to watch what she says about Pam, and to be nice to Tara since she's family.

Jason is seeing his dead parents, and they are some vampire hating folks. Eric, Nora and Tara go to Sookie’s to recruit her. Sookie thinks she knows whose behind the Tru Blood attacks, but Eric enlightens her that its been Bill. Tara points out multiple times that she owes Pam, and she does big time. Eric and Jason bicker like children, and Nora creeps her out, but Sookie agrees to go help Bill, and Jason decides to come along.

Bill goes over the meaning of breaching with the guards who have failed the Authority. He wants everything caught and killed, until Sam is found. Salome asks after the counselor that he killed, Bill admits his crime, and reveals what Lilith revealed to him. Salome stares down Bill as he tells her that Lilith chose her, and that he was to serve her.  Salome breathes a sigh of relief, not seeing the danger.

Luna tries to comfort her puppy dog daughter. Sam shifts back, and begs Luna to make a run for it if they come for her, but Luna refuses to leave her daughter.

Jessica tells Pam that both Bill and Eric have gone over to the darkside, but Pam doesn’t believe that Eric has bought into the dogma. Jessica is in disbelief that the boys were going to leave Sookie unprotected against Russell, and Pam sees the light in the religion.

Alcide bonds with his father as he barbeques a stag they brought down together. Alcide tells him “Words are great, deads are better.” Martha arrives with a crazed Rikki, she was force fed V by JD, and Martha feared she may have OD’d with how crazy she’s acting.

Sam flies through the air ducts, casing the area.

Jason is less than careful with his precious cargo. Sookie isn’t very happy with how he’s acting, as Jason gathers supplies to take out the Authority. His parents are only egging on his crazy hatred for the vampires.

Rikki is sweating out the V after Jackson gives her some medicine that makes the V leave her body through her pores. Alcide asks what else JD did, and Rikki wants Alcide to admit their night together meant something. He does, and I'm a little disappointed, since she's one of the poorer developments of this season. Rikki happy to hear his profession, tells him that JD called a pack meeting, and then forced everyone to drink blood, and he even raped some of the girls. Jackson tells his son if he wants to beat JD, then he needs to play by his rules, and pulls out his stash of V.

Sam, finding the intel he was looking for, comes back to Luna with a plan.

Lafayette whips up some Cajun Margaritas, which Holly and Arlene think are too die for. The mice are having way to much fun with Sam away. Andy arrives with Maurella, she's got one heck of a salt craving and Jane Bodehouse drunkingly proclaims that they slept together. Andy denies it, and Holly overhears, with her protective instincts going into hyper drive. Andy admits to her that he slept with Maurella, and that she's not only pregnant, but that she can't go to the hospital. Maurella goes all lighty down below. Her light broke.

Bills sexes Salome.

Sookie defends Bill. Jason wonders why they’ve chosen the people that they have to love, they keep getting hurt because they’re expecting something good. Sookie refuses to think that way, but Jason’s likely concussed , as Sookie finds the giant lump on head. Eric asks him to pull over, very nicely, and we get to see cute playful Eric again. I miss him from last season.

Maurella assumes the position to give birth. It’s a very rapturous moment, very orgasmic. Arlene, Lafayette, and Jane Bodehouse watch on. Holly is less than pleased to be midwifing for Andy's pregnant girlfriend, and Maurella has a girl. Holly delivers the pretty baby into Andy's arms, but she's not done.

Rev Newlin arrives, sending the shifters into a panic, but he’s just there for Emma. And when I say him, I’m pretty sure it’s Luna, especially as he begs Emma not to shift. He almost makes it out, when Chelsea the receptionist stops him to chitchat, and red flags raise when she notices his lack southern accent. He easily side steps her questions, and goes to the elevator. The elevator gives him pause, when Rossalyn arrives bitching about his antics. She summons the elevators, and off they go, complaining about the killing spree that he and Russell went on, and how they have to clean it up.

Four babies down, and Maurella leaves her job done. It’s left up to him  raise his babies, their light pact has been made flesh and she honors what was, what is, and what will never be. Holly is less than pleased.

JD drains some baby vamps. Alcide’s back and pumped up, ready for some action. Jackson and Martha are ready to intervene, but there’s no need. No one bothers to step in as Alcide kills JD. The wolves bow down before their new leader. He tells the wolves that they are going back to the old ways, and any wolf not down with his plan is free to leave or challenge him.

Eric and Nora arrive with their “captives.” They’re stopped at the gate, and the guard mentions how amazing Sookie smells, but Eric is quick to claim her. Bill okays their entry before noticing Sookie in the camera feed.

“Newlin” prepares for an onscreen interview, and Rossalyn gives him one heck of a pep talk. All “Newlin” has to do is follow his script, and Luna loses it, throwing up blood and turning back into herself. Luna reveals everything about the Authority that she knows on live Television, that they're holding people hostage and killing them .  No one expecting that turn of events. Rossalyn cuts the feed, preparing to kill Luna. Sam flies around and into Rossalyn, shifting back inside of her, splattering her all over the walls, but its too late, that last bout of skinwalking may have killed Luna as she falls over.

Bill contemplates what to do. Salome goes before the blood, preparing to drink it.

Jason, Tara, Eric and Nora and Sookie make their way down the elevators.  Taking out the security systems as Salome plans on drinking the last of Lilith’s blood. Jason takes out the secretary when the doors open, level 2 protocalls are initiated. Eric and Nora are off. Tara takes out everyone else. Eric and Nora take out a team of guards and go to disable the rest of the security system. Eric is having way to much fun dealing death. Sookie and Tara go to find Pam and Jessica. Jason kills everything that crosses his path. Sookie opens the silver door to free Jessica, and Tara burns herself to save her maker, and the two share a heck of a kiss.

Salome prepares to drink the rest of the blood, and Bill tries to talk her out of it.  She tells him that this is no longer a movement, but the Rapture, and she drinks it all down. Bill watches in relief, someone got played.

Jason keeps watch, and Sookie and the other girls join him. Jessica is so relieved to see Jason, that she professes her love, but Jason tells her that he can never love a vampire. Eric and Nora arrive, and Eric sends everyone but Sookie up to safety. Eric and Sookie plan to try to save Bill.

Salome writhes on the floor, poisoned. Bill silvered the blood she sucked down, saving Lilith’s actual blood for himself. He stakes Salome, and she admits that Lilith chose right before she explodes into a puddle of goo. Eric and Sookie arrive and try to save Bill. He makes digs at Sookie, calling her an abomination, but Sookie doesn’t back down, heaping praise upon him, and hurting Eric a little. Bill has always lived in fear and inferiority, but thinks that Lilith now sets him free, and he sounds a whole lot like Russell in his ranting. He drinks the entire vial of Lilith’s blood as Eric and Sookie watch on in horror and disbelief. The Blood causes an adverse reaction in Bill. He bleeds from his eyes and melts into a pool of blood, before he’s reborn, into a very feral Bill. Eric and Sookie make a run for it.

And this ends the season. I'm a little in disbelief, but all I can say I'm glad they didn't kill Eric, and I'll be back for next season. What did you all think?

Magnet Takes Todd Rohal's Nature Calls

New York, NY – August 24th, 2012 – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing announced today they have acquired North American rights to NATURE CALLS, a raucous comedy starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Patrice O’Neal (in his final film role), Maura Tierney, and Darrell Hammond.  The film was written and directed by Todd Rohal (The Catechism Cataclysm), and produced by Lisa Muskat.  Filmmaker David Gordon Green executive produced with David Bausch, Michael Clark and John Hodges.

Oswalt stars as Scoutmaster Randy Stevens, whose dwindling, apathetic troop ditches a scout meeting in favor of a TV-themed slumber party hosted by Randy’s brother Kirk (Knoxville), his polar opposite and arch nemesis. When Randy rounds up the boys in the middle of the night, stealing them for an highly unauthorized/unorganized trip to the woods, all hell breaks loose as Kirk pursues with a pair of gun-toting employees (Riggle and O’Neal). Drinking, nudity, mishandled fireworks and tremendously inappropriate behavior around minors ensues, in the grand tradition of comedy classics like The Bad News Bears and Meatballs.

“NATURE CALLS holds its own with the best low-brow comedy classics,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “Well directed with a truly funny cast, this is going to be a late night favorite for years to come.”

Director Rohal added, "I'm thrilled to have our film welcomed into the collection of Magnolia films. They're a company that continues to release films that shock and amaze me. It's great to be a part of their world."

Magnet will release the film this fall through its Ultra VOD program, debuting the film on all VOD platforms on October 4th, with a theatrical release to follow on November 9th.

The deal was negotiated by Magnet/Magnolia SVP of Acquisitions Dori Begley, with Cinetic Media and CAA.

About Magnet Releasing:
Magnet is the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, specializing in films from the vanguard of horror, action, comedy and Asian cinema, and the home of genre classics like Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In, Takeshi Miike’s 13 Assassins, Christopher Smith’s Black Death, Ti West’s The House of the Devil, Andre Ovredal’s Trollhunter, Gareth Edward’s Monsters, Neil Marshall’s sword and sandals bloodbath Centurion, and Tony Jaa’s Ong Bak trilogy to name a few. Recent releases include Michael Dowse’s hockey comedy Goon, Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, Panos Cosmatos’ psychedelic head trip Beyond the Black Rainbow, and Ti West’s The Innkeepers. Upcoming releases include horror anthologies V/H/S and The ABCs of Death, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning with Jean Claude Van-Damme and Dolph Lundgren, REC[3]: Genesis, and many more.
