Reign Recap S1E3: Kissed

A rooster crows on the Scottish Border. An armored English horde crosses. Nostradamus prepares something for Catherine and gets a vision of war. He’s not sure of its origins, but knows it will affect her.

Mary and her ladies talk of kisses. Kenna talks of first kisses and pleasing oneself. Greer has not had a first kiss yet. She doesn’t come from a titled family and cannot afford a mistake, but she thinks she has found a man, Tomas, the son of the King Portugal. Aylee points out the dangers of getting involved with a prince, since they don’t marry for love, but alliance. Greer tells her that Tomas is a bastard like Bash, and therefore she has a chance. Mary’s uncle Claude de Guise has arrives, and Mary goes to him.

Claude makes his greetings, and her mother’s letter. He tells her that there has been a massing of the English on the border looking for a skirmish. Her mother has sent soldiers, but they need more. They’ve asked for France, and King Henry has dragged his feet thus far. He reminds Mary that she was sent to France to secure France’s alliance by wedding Prince Francis. She tells him that nothing has happened, that they’re bidding politicians, jockeying for position, keeping her in their pocket until its more beneficial to them. As Queen she must act now though.

Mary goes to see King Henry. He tells her that he’s been discussing these the matters of Scotland, and are sending supplies, but Mary wants soldiers. France is worried about its borders, Henry insists. Mary points out that if their roles were reversed she would send help, she insists on soldiers, and he gives her platitudes, blowing her off. She hopes he understands her positions. Francis thinks that he should send the companies, but Henry thinks that it opens them up to showing weakness.

Francis goes to placate Mary. Although he agrees with her, he tells her that if England invades Scotland, then they’ll be that much more an enemy to France. He tells her that one day they will wed and rule France and Scotland, but now they have no real power. Waiting is not an option to Mary, if they have no power, they must find some.

Young Prince Charles asks Mary to play with him, and she agrees to, since sometimes kicking something is just what is needed. Charles likes that Mary is different from other girls, unafraid of getting dirty. Mary kicks the ball, but too hard, and it flies into a tree. Mary goes up into the tree after it, and Greer and Tomas find her up there as she accidentally throws the ball down at them. Tomas teases Mary, asking if she often strolls in trees, since the young prince has abandoned her in boredom. He teases more that from his stance Scotland has attacked Portugal. She asks that he moves so she can get down, and he goes to, but she falls down onto him. Portugal surrenders, and Tomas bids them adieu. Mary understands why Greer likes him, and she plots out her first kiss.

Bash and Tomas engage in some sweaty swordplay, but Henry does not take it easy on his son. Henry notes that his mind is distracted, perhaps by some ladies of court. Francis interrupts, he presses about helping Scotland. Henry lets him explain his stance. Francis thinks that England is looking for a reaction, if they strike hard and fast they can defeat the English, whereas if they do nothing they chance losing the Scottish alliance. Henry hears that it’s a balance of risk, but he’s already decided that the cons outweigh the pros, and he has the final say. Henry wants to go back to sparring, and Francis jumps in. He doesn’t get this kind of Daddy bonding time. Francis offers a wager, and Henry accepts. Game on. Henry doesn’t take it easy on his son, and a slip costs him the game, but he’s going back on his word, because he can. He tells his son that he’s looking after the interest of the realm, nothing more. Lesson learned. Bash tries to offer advice, but Francis isn’t up for any other lessons.

Greer gathers up the goods for the picnic with Tomas. The Kitchen boy tells her to just leave the list, but she isn’t sure he can read. She leaves it with him when Mary comes calling though. Mary asks more about Tomas coming in about a trade deal. He’s come for timber. It has occurred to her that if a Queen can’t get what she needs she buys it.

Mary takes a stroll with Tomas. She wants to talk timber. Scotland has more timber than France, and she is willing to trade Timber for men. He asks about her alliance, but she doesn’t need to answer, he understands, France is unwilling to help. Tomas has the power to make the best deal, and he’d be foolish to turn down the proposition. He needs time to let Henry down, he tells her that he will confirm the transaction later.

Henry and Kenna steal kisses in the hallway. He tells her that the guards are discreet, she wants to be with him completely, but she needs time. He gives her the time she needs, and she stumbles away.

Mary rides in the woods with Tomas, they take their ride across the countryside, far away from the palace, to an abandoned old church. It was built by Louis the 7th, and he wants her advice. The new world has brought them vast riches, and he shows her a cache of jewels asking if it may make a woman think highly of him. She does. He takes a ring from the collection and drops down on one knee. Mary is confused, she thought he was interested in Greer. Although Greer is a lovely girl, he sees in Mary a kindred spirit. Her wildness, her playfulness, is something that mirrors his own soul, a part of him that he’s kept to himself. He sees her struggles in France, and tells her that he would never make her wait, he tells her to say yes and she will have her men. Mary hesitates. He’s kind, handsome and charming. She’s a Queen, and she needs to marry a nation, not a man. He gives her the papers of legitimacy that his father has sent to the pope. This announcement will be made soon. He offers her his heart, and country.

Aylee is excited over Tomas’s proposal. Mary hasn’t told her uncle yet, because of Francis. Mary says that she would be exchanging a man she admires for one she barely knows in support for Scotland. Furthermore Mary is worried over Greer’s feelings, but Aylee reminds her that Greer is not even a possibility for a crowned Prince. Mary isn’t sure if anything will come of it anyways.

At court, Henry tries to not keep an eye on Kenna. Catherine asks about the warfare of Scotland in  Nostradamus’s vision, worried about the ramifications reaching France. Francis tells Mary she looks lovely, but she’s more concerned about France’s lack of action. Henry calls forth Nostradamus, wanting to hear his wisdom. He wants to know what he’s telling Catherine. He asks Nostradamus to tell the fortunes of Mary and her ladies. Nostradamus has no control over his visions; Henry nettles him that he’s not as good as the Seer in Prague. Catherine tells Henry to leave him be, but Henry won’t let it lie. He has each of the girls to pick a card. Lola asks if she will love again, he tells her that she will meet a dark handsome stranger, and to be wary of thatchery. To Mary he tells her that life will meet her with many challenges, which she will meet with grace. Henry wants something more specific. He sees something more, darker, telling her that the lion will fight the dragon on the field of poppies. To Greer he tells her that she will fall in love with the man with a white mark on his face. Aylee asks about her family, but he tells her that she will never go home, but he cannot tell her more than he sees. Henry remains unimpressed with the show. Catherine calls for dancing music and Mary confronts Nostradamus of his dark prophecy for Aylee. He can only say what he sees. Mary doesn’t believe her prophecy either, not seeing the gains in his lies. She asks who he serves, and he tells her the realm and himself. Francis takes Mary aside as Tomas watches her. Greer tries to link the tiny scar on Tomas’s cheek to Nostradamus’s prophecy. He rushes away from her. Francis tries to assure Mary that he’s done all he can to convince his father. Bash watches the two on the dancefloor as Mary suggests Francis do more. Tomas cuts in as music from his country plays. Their dance is far more intimate, and Mary struggles to keep Tomas. They’re the only two on the dancefloor, and the dance is an intimate affair. Bash taunts, asking Francis why he doesn’t dance with her like that, and Catherine delights in the display, asking for another Portuguese song. Mary tells Tomas that his action was not discreet.

Greer walks away, and Mary tries to reassure her that it was just a dance. Greer tells her that she is her Queen, she is rich, and beautiful, and engaged. She thought she could leave Tomas to her, knowing that Tomas was important, and having no clue that circumstances had changed. She stalks off to her room, and Francis is ready to dig at her further. He asks what the display was all about. Mary tells her that Tomas is being legitimized, and he proposed. It isn’t what she wants, but her options are limited. Francis is unhappy about the plotting behind his countries back, acting like a child who just had his toy stolen. Though it was not Mary’s idea, and not something she wants, France isn’t giving her much choice. If France will not help, she has to accept Portugal’s offer. He reminds her that she would be marrying Tomas, not the country.

The girls gather around the bondfire, and Kenna spots the king. She thinks that he is extended her an offer to join him on his barge, but as she goes to meet him, another woman takes his hand in her place. Mary and Tomas walk together, as Francis watches. Tomas tells her of his first wife whom he loved dearly, but who died of influenza. A man deliver’s Greer’s no longer needed picnic basket. Tomas tells Mary that when he learned of his father’s quest to legitimize him, he thought that his next marriage would be political, until he saw her in a tree. Greer can no longer stand to watch Tomas and leaves, as Tomas takes Mary to a nearby barge. Francis jumps aboard another before it shoves off.

Kenna goes inside to watch the fireworks. She tells Bash that his father is a confusing man. Bash agrees.

Mary tells Tomas that her family has to verify all that he has told her. He understands and tells her that he has a ship, and they can leave for Scotland in the morning. Mary thinks its too quick. Tomas knows that Mary is what he wants, and he will do whatever it takes to keep from losing her.

Greer is sitting in the kitchen when the kitchen boy comes. She tells him she needs to return the basket. He asks if her important friend enjoyed the basket, and she falls into tears.

Kenna presses Bash for more insight into Henry, asking if he is a punishing man. Bash finds the conversation uncomfortable, but Kenna thinks her code is discreet. It isn’t. He tells her that Henry is playing her. He likes to play, and he likes to win, and more that a victory without effort is worse than defeat.

Francis interrupts Henry’s playtime. Francis tells him that if the Scottish alliance is worth saving, then they need to send troops. Henry doesn’t want to talk about it, the decision has already been made. Francis tells him that he knows how he looks at Lady Kenna, and he wonders how his deMedici wife, and French mistress will like him moving in on a new girl. He tells him that he knows how the women will make even a King’s life hell. Henry likes this duplicity in Francis. Win or lose, they’ll go with Francis’s plan, and he will answer for the results as King’s do. They have six companies at the wait, and they will send their fastest rider, the sexy Bash. Bash tries to sober up as Francis gives him the instructions. Bash likes any idea that will keep Mary in France. Francis cautions his older brother to be careful, and Bash rides like the wind.

The kitchen boy has found a way to bring a smile to Greer’s face with his goat stories. She’s never lived with a goat, but her father has many hounds that take up space all over their house. He asks if that’s why her father sent her here, and she admits that he father sent her to marry well, that they made it very clear. Land and title are the goals of her life. Love although she hopes for it, but isn’t guaranteed and she has younger sisters counting on her. She tells him that when she was sent off to France, her sisters looked at her like her father looks at an investment, wondering if it would pay off. He kisses her, and she gives in for a moment, before stopping herself. He’s a servant, and she cannot let anything to happen between them.

Francis gives Mary the good news; six companies are headed to Scotland. He tells her that he still cannot afford to marry her right away like Tomas, that she would have a secure alliance with him, but with France is hope that it will soon be right for both countries. Mary will accept hope.

Mary wakes Greer with a bribe of coffee. Greer apologizes. There was really never anything with between her and Tomas except some innocent flirting. She was living in a dream world, thinking of the perfect kiss with a man with a white mark on his face, and her being a heroine saving her family. Mary knows that Greer will find the right man, and she admits that, although she has been engaged for a long time, she has not been kissed. Greer confesses that she has now been kissed, but doesn’t reveal who. The other girls arrive, and Mary thinks to call down for breakfast. Greer takes it upon herself to go to the kitchen with an extensive breakfast request, and one of the kitchen men go to get it all, while Greer watches her kitchen boy. He gives her a morning greeting, kneading the bread, as she leaves he accidentally smears flour across his cheek. The white mark Nostradamus saw.

Francis and Mary plot strategy for the French troops. Bash returns home, barely. The men bring him down to Nostradamus, he is gravely injured.  This is part of Nostradamus’s prophecy. Bash is gravely injured, and although Nostradamus can treat his wounds he makes no guarantees Bash will survive. Bash reports that the English rode out to meet them at Calais, he never made it to the ships. It was a slaughter. Francis apologizes to Bash, but Henry stops him as Nostradamus does his ministrations. Henry sends Mary away. He tells Francis that he knew it was a risk, he was influenced by his heart. As king, had Francis made the decision he could have lost his country. Catherine points out that the English were ready for them, someone tipped them off. Henry isn’t going to reveal his inside information, for fear that it would ruin his lesson. He wants to cast doubt on Francis’s heart.

Mary tells Francis that he did the right thing. He kisses her, and tells her to marry Tomas. He hasn’t been thinking clearly. France cannot help her; she needs to do what is right for her country.

Mary goes to see Tomas, and tells him that he will need to teach her Portugese. In the morning, his men set out, to his ship.  He tells her that he will make her happy, and he already has. There are eight companies of men, and they will be in Scotland soon. His dragon banner unfurls, and another Nostradamus prophecy is exposed. The English Lion will fight the dragon on a field of poppies. Tomas takes Mary’s hand as unease comes over her.

Poor Homicide Detective and Grimm Nick Burkhardt, cant catch a break, or even a sandwich without onions. He's off to investigate a broken up wedding where both the bride and groom were kidnapped by some species purists, the PWO or Pure World Order which to me sounds like some New World Order wrestling rejects, which may be the easiest part of his day.

The mother he thought was dead, Kelly, has resurfaced, not because of a deep seated love of her child, but because she's hunted by some Verrat soldiers trying to steal the Coins of Zakynthos that she's intent on destroying. After Kelly falls into the wrong hands, its up to Nick, Hank and Monroe to journey to Europe and save the day. But along the way there will be plenty of dark secrets revealed, and promises of death for one.

New readers may have a hard time if they aren't show watchers and aren't familiar with the mythology. There is a lot to take in, though there is some pausing to explain some of the backstory it can be a lot for newcomers to take in,  but for those that do watch the show this is a must have! It's a never-before-told story, set in the world of the acclaimed NBC series, Grimm, written by the show creators themselves. Fast paced, and well written, this is a perfect companion piece.

Vikings Season 1 DVD Review

Vikings made quite splash this past spring when it premiered on the History Channel, and great news for fans it will be returning for a second season. For those of you who missed it, or just wanting to view it again, the complete first season it made its way to DVD and Blu-Ray October 15th.

The first season finds Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) longing to explore the unfamiliar civilizations across the seas. With the help of his eccentric friend, the gifted craftsman Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), he has built a new generation of faster longships and proceeds to challenge the local ruler, Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), to allow raids into unexplored North East England.

Ragnar's brother Rollo (Clive Standen) who's harboring some major lust for his brother's wife, sheildmadien Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) offers his support, often times pushing his much smarter brother into folly. Ragnar's first raid earns him much ire from the earl, and his only trinket is the monk Athelstan (George Blagden). As conflict boils into a fever pitch the consequence are not only deadly but very bloody as Ragnar rises in status.

The first season is extremely addictive, plunging into the life of a Viking, its dangerous, exciting and even kind of sexy. Although not historically accurate it is entertaining.

The Blu-Ray is really the gem to grab. Not only is it in a nice streamlined case with that V, it has a crazy nine hours of bonus features. If Blu-Ray isn't your thing, the DVD isn't slacking either, it just doesn't have the extended/alternate scenes, and the ability to track Viking journeys.

Vikings Special Features:

  • 9 episodes with extended and alternate scenes: These are only on the Blu-Ray.
  • “The Armory Of Vikings” - An interactive feature, with history of Vikings armory and weapons.
  • “Conquest and Discover: The Journey Of The Vikings” - An in depth look at the locations Ragnar traveled to throughout Season 1
  • “Warrior Society: Viking Culture & Law” -  A featurette exploring the laws, practices and rules of Viking society.
  • “Birth Of The Vikings”- Behind the scenes featurette on the creation of VIKINGS.
  • “Forging The Viking Army: Warfare And Tactics” - Further behind the scenes featurette this time with the process of casting and creating the epic battle scenes from the show.
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Commentary from Michael Hirst

Rudy and Jess head to the woman's flat again where they find Rudy's father burning her clothes in the backyard and attempting to clean a bloodstain out of the carpet. Jess has Rudy call his dad to go out for a beer, during which she will sneak into the flat to try to figure out if he has indeed murdered this woman. Jess calls Rudy while hiding, saying that his dad is back, but Rudy tells her that his dad is still sitting across from him. Rudy then asks his dad if he has a twin and his father confesses that he split into two, much like Rudy. Any and all negative qualities split off from him and that was the version they saw burning the clothes. He catches Jess and Rudy barges in to rescue her. He says he won't let Jess go until they tell her where Tina, the woman he has been seeing, is but they tell him they thought he had murdered her.

Greg, the probation worker, catches Finn showering in the community centre. Finn says he likes to shower before community service and prefers the hot water of the centre. The encounter is highly awkward. Abbey is still wearing the scarf and smelling it.

Rudy spots Tina during community service and tells her about his father's power and the fact that she has been dating the bad version. She tells them he took all her money and put into his account. Rudy and Jess think that Rudy's real father could get her money back. Alex and Finn see a boy getting mugged and Alex intervenes. The three thugs threaten them with a knife so Finn uses his power to move a shopping cart, causing them to walk away. The boy they rescued flies off but Alex and Finn don't see him do it.

Rudy, Jess, and Rudy's original father meet Tina at the pub. Rudy's father has gotten her stolen money and apologises for the trouble his evil copy has caused. Abbey finds a girl in the pub named Laura to whom the scarf belongs to. They strike up a conversation.

Evil Rudy's father confronts his original self. Rudy Two tells Rudy he wants to meet their parents but Rudy shoots him down. During dinner with his parents, Rudy realises his father is actual the evil version. While his mother is out of the room, Rudy is knocked out by the evil copy and hidden under the table. The man takes Rudy's mother upstairs to have sex. Jess comes to check in on them and finds Rudy's father bound and gagged in the boot of his car.

Rudy wakes and barges in on his parents. The evil copy attempts to beat Rudy and his mother but Jess knocks him out just in time. Rudy tells his mother that Jess is his girlfriend. Rudy's mother threatens the evil copy, saying she will kill him if he comes anywhere near her or her family again. Despite the fact that Rudy lied about Jess being his girlfriend, the rouse appears to make them see each other in a new light.

At the super-power support group, the boy Alex and Finn rescued from the mugging attends for the first time. He tells them his name is Sam and says he can fly. This catches Rudy Two's attention, as one of the people on the super-power jumper given to him was shown to be flying.

Ripper Street S2E1 - "Pure as the Driven" Recap

A police officer searches for a particular woman in Chinatown and appears to be ill. He eventually makes his way to a boarding house where he is thrown from a second story window. His leg is impaled on a railing but he's not dead.

Detective Reid and Sergeant Bennet head to the lower level of the the police department where they begin fighting to break up a riot. Jackson makes his way through the violence with great ease. Afterwards, we learn that H Division is in trouble, with citizens no longer respecting the badge or uniform. Sergeant Artherton says they need more men or a Gatling gun but Reid says they haven't the funds nor reputation for either. Another officer bursts in to tell them about the man impaled on the fence and when they learn he is a copper, they head off to help him.

Upon reaching the scene, a mob is trying to attack the officer but the police are trying to keep them off of the man , who we learn is named Sergeant Maurice. While the officers of H division work to save him, the camera zooms in on a Chinese woman staring calmly but intently at Maurice. Reid and Jackson examine the room Maurice was thrown from and Reid states that the culprit must be found for the good of all police's reputation with the city.

Drake hold Sergeant Maurice in his arms as they're driven to the hospital. Maurice warns Drake that a wave of suffering is coming that he likens to the Red Sea. Later, Drake relays this warning to Reid but they're unable to decipher its meaning. The trio stands from above and watches the surgeon work on removing the railing from Maurice's leg. They spot a fist-shaped bruise on Maurice's chest, and the surgeon informs them that there are needle marks along an old knee injury, which they deduce must have been a result of medicating for the pain.

Inspector Shine from K division storms into the operating room but is told to leave by the surgeon. He speaks with Reid, telling him about the woman in a photograph in the room Maurice had been thrown from. Maurice had been in Whitechapel investigating a crime but K Division's lack of fondness for paperwork means H Division has nothing to go off of. As the trio leaves the hospital, Reid briefly chats with Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man. Reid then visits Long Susan to enquire after the woman in the photograph. Susan identifies her as a woman using the alias Blush Pang, whom Susan once offered a job which Pang refused. When Reid is leaving, a girl fetches a bag for Reid and after she leaves, he and Susan agree to keep the matter of the bag "between themselves."

Back at headquarters, Jackson shares a theory that the attacker was just one person, with Reid and Drake. He says that he once witnessed a Chinese monk in San Francisco that exhibited remarkable abilities, including sending people flying three feet backwards with a single blow to the chest. There was also a casino chip they discover that leads them to investigate Chinatown.

In Chinatown, we see Pang walking through a casino and lead a man to a back room. She prepares some drugs for him but flees when she realises someone is coming after her. Turns out, it's the man who can send people flying with a single blow to the chest. The trio reach the casino where Shine and the other men from the K division are already there. The man we had just seen Pang injecting with drugs is now dead. When they examine his body, they find similar marks as what was on Maruice's knee injury. There's shards from a knife in the man's neck, and Shine recognises it as part of rival Chinese clans trying to outdo one another.

Drake is now married to a woman named Bella, who comforts him following the long, tiring day with trying to save Maurice. Jackson asks Susan to run away with him, but she is hesitant to do so. Reid now lives alone. Drake visits Maurice at the hospital, where Maurice suffers from withdrawal symptoms. Drake snoops around and finds a piece of paper. He encounters Merrick on his way out. Drake brings the paper to Reid and they see that it was a receipt for opium signed by Blush Pang.

They're able to track down Pang's opium stash where they encounter the man with the ferocious punch. Though there's a bit of a scuffle, they learn that the man is not trying to kill Pang. He is her brother and he wants to bring her home to restore their family's mother. Many years ago, Pang was kidnapped by a policeman who forced her into opium business. Turns out the policeman is Shine and we see him and Pang holed up together. She's not being held hostage. She was either a willing participant from the start or she has a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome. Meanwhile, Long Susan receives a letter from her landlord threatening eviction if she doesn't pay more money and when she visits him, he refuses to let up.

Jackson has injected himself with the needle they recovered from Maurice and has found it to be containing heroine, not morphine. The trio visits Maurice and interrogate him, promising to give him a dose of heroine if he gives them the answers they seek. He tells them where to find the lab where the drugs are cooked and just when he is about to give up Shine's name, the man himself bursts in and kick them out.

H Division goes to the lab to arrest Blush Pang but she is trying to destroy the evidence in the lab. Her brother shows up to try to take Pang home. Following a long, entertaining fight scene, Pang and her brother manage to get outside. Jackson stops them and it preparing to arrest Pang when Shine arrives and attempts to take Pang and her brother into custody, so he may let Pang off and kill her brother. Reid says that since this is his street and his rules, if Shine wants to take them, he must fight Pang's brother one-on-one.

The fight begins and Shine is made out to be an absolute fool as Pang's brother easily blocks his moves. Shine plays dirty by throwing gravel into his face but before the fight can go on for much longer, Pang stabs her brother in the back, literally. Pang is taken into custody and Shine doesn't fight to stop it since he'd rather save his own skin, much to the anger of Pang.

That night, Shine sneaks into Maurice's room through the winder and kills him with a poisoned injection. The only witness to this crime is Joseph Merrick. Shine visits Reid and Drake at the bar to give them the "bad news" and taunts them by all but outright saying that he has framed them from the murder.

Ripper Street airs on BBC One on Mondays at 9PM.

Masters of Sex S1E5 - "Catherine" Recap

Bill meets a religious couple that are having difficulty conceiving and is astounded to learn that they have been literally interpreting the Bible, attempting to conceive by merely sleeping in the same bed. Libby's pregnancy is progressing nicely. Bill and Virginia have compiled a great deal of information about the cycle of arousal and climax but now want to study couples and examine the role of attraction in sex.

Bill and Virginia approach Austin to ask him to participate in the study again. He is thrilled and approaches Jane, who informs him she hasn't been asked yet. At his first session, he is disappointed when another woman is to be his partner instead. He is unable to achieve an erection despite all the woman's efforts.

Ethan takes Vivian out for an egg creme at the prodding of her father. She can tell he is worried that she will say something to her father that will get him fired. She tells him not to make assumptions about her and that she is perfectly capable of having a casual relationship with him. They have sex, after which they find blood on the sheets. Ethan is mortified at realising this was her first time.

Bill is sleep-walking again and this time, he had begun packing a suitcase. Austin speaks with Bill and Virginia to express his anger at their changing partners on him. He felt like they treated him as a puppet. Virginia explains that they were trying to collect data without attraction factoring in. He tells them he wants to continue in the study and that his results with Jane need to serve as his baseline, after which they should give him a warning if he will be partnered up with someone else. They re-pair him with Jane but he is still unable to get an erection.

The Scullys are having a party for their 30th anniversary. Vivian pulls Ethan outside to tell him they were meant to be together. Libby begins to bleed and is taken to the hospital where she miscarries. Virginia breaks down when Henry briefly runs away due to his hating her and resenting her being gone all the time working. Ethan comforts her after having a talk with Henry. He offers to come around from occasionally and spend time with Henry and assures Virginia that it won't complicate their relationship, as he is now dating Vivian Scully.

Bill delivers his stillborn daughter. He later fights with his mother who has never seen the seriousness of his sleepwalking. He tells her that their family has a sickness that spills over and infects everyone. He later has a moment in his office with Virginia in which he breaks down, asks her to close her eyes, and begins crying.

Masters of Sex airs on Sundays on Showtime at 10PM.

Beauty and the Beast S2E4 - "Hothead" Recap

Cat and Tess head out for a night of fun. Cat wants to forget about Vincent, who is also stressing now that his memories are starting to come back. He tells Chandler that he needs another Beast so he can keep busy and not think about Cat. Fortunately for him, there's a serial arsonist that Gabe determines to be a fire-resistant Beast.

Cat's night out doesn't go so well as she ends up in a fight (although it's pretty one-sided when her opponents are loud-mouthed drunks). She ends up getting arrested after one of the people she punches ends up being a judge. Gabe bails her out and scolds her like a child before filling her in on the fire-resistant Beast. He wants Vincent to help catch him, not kill him, to try to undo the his Beastly condition in the same way they undid his own. If they can re-create the results on the arsonists, they could cure Vincent. Cat wants no part of this investigation or plan, seeing as how arson isn't even under their jurisdiction.

Gabe pays a visit to Vincent's boat, risking personal safety to put him on the trail of the arsonist as well as tell him a bit about their history and dangle the possibility of his becoming human before him. Vincent heads out, determined to kill it. He uses his Beastly abilities to track the arsonist down to his latest fire. It's there that he learns that this Beast, Eddie Long, is not only fire-resistant but a fire-starter as well. Eddie unleashes some flames on Vincent, kicks him while he's down, and walks off victorious.

Cat is at a spa with Tess and is repeatedly getting distracted by talking about Gabe's plan. Gabe calls to interrupt the session, but she doesn't answer. He tries calling Tess and then the spa, forcing the womyn to cut short their pampering session.

Vincent is rescued from the fire by some firefighters and Gabe has managed to get Vincent hidden in a hospital room to hopefully keep anyone from ID-ing him. Vincent shares a private moment with Cat in which he tells her he wants to finish his mission so he can be with her. Meanwhile, Chandler has arrived at the hospital in search of Vincent, knowing that "John Doe" is really him. He spots Gabe with the arson investigators, who want to interview Vincent. Gabe tells them that Vincent is named Victor and is working undercover for the DA's office. As it turns out, the younger of the investigators is Aaron Keller. When his name is mentioned, Vincent's heart begins to race as memories come flooding back. Gabe orders the arson investigators out as Cat struggles to get Vincent under control. Vincent is remembering that Aaron is his nephew, the son of Vincent's dead brother William. Overwhelmed by the memories and unable to get his heart rate under control, Vincent beasts out and leaps through the hospital window.

Vincent calls Chandler, who says that he just has a few more missions and then he'll be done. He tells Vincent some background information on Eddie being a convicted arsonist that Muirfield ran experiments on, advises him to stay calm, and to steer clear of things that will trigger memories. Vincent returns to his boat to find Cat waiting for him, wanting to be sure that he's okay. He opens up about Aaron, William, and the memories that came back of the day William died.

The team figures out that all the building are owned by a wealthy oil executive. It's not long before another one of those buildings is set on fire and the firefighters head out, realising that Aaron has run off early to try to take the arsonist out himself. At the fire, Cat tries to stop Vincent but he kisses her and tells her not to worry.

Aaron comes face-to-face with Eddie, who takes him out with a small explosive device. Vincent gets in and prepares to face off with Eddie once again. Eddie attempts to use his running fire trick but Vincent has learned from his mistakes and claws a water pipe to put out the fire and begin fighting him properly. Aaron's firefighter alarm goes off and while Vincent is distracted, Eddie runs off. Vincent struggles with flashbacks of William telling him he needs to go back to medical school since their mother couldn't handle having another son as a firefighter, and then him losing his brother in the twin towers. A vision of William guides him to Aaron, and he scoops him up to get him to safety.

Cat and Gabe encounter Eddie, and Cat has to shoot him to prevent him from attacking and/or escaping. They try to use the defibrillator but they're not able to resuscitate him. Vincent gets Aaron out and whistles the firefighters over to look after Aaron. Later, Aaron pays a visit to Cat at the station to thank her. She warns him to be more careful from now on. He asks to talk to her partner (Vincent) to thank him for saving him but he won't be able to do that in person since he's "undercover."

Cat and Vincent go for a walk. He's adjusting as best as he can to the memories coming back but he's also happy to have more of who he is. They pay a visit to the memorial site of the Twin Towers and pay their respects to Vincent's brothers. Vincent wonders if he could have saved them if he had stayed in his profession as a firefighter and Cat advises him not to think about what could have been. They hold hands and prepare for what's to come, any of which they will face together.

Beauty and the Beast airs on Mondays on the CW at 8PM.
