James Asmus, Jim Festante & Jose Garcia's Field Tripping Debuts 9/11 on comiXology Originals

It’s Back to School, So Buckle Up as Co-Writers James Asmus & Jim Festante Re-Unite for the comiXology Originals Series Field Tripping with Art by José García
Field Tripping #1 is available September 11th

ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service announces Field Tripping an all-new, creator owned mini-series by co-writers James Asmus and Jim Festante with art by José García and letters by Ryan Ferrier. This world-spanning, all-ages 5-issue comic book series is part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive content. The debut issue of Field Tripping is available to read on September 11th at no additional cost for members of Amazon Prime via their Prime Reading benefit, Kindle Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited, and for purchase on Kindle and comiXology

When a flighty teacher with a mysterious bus takes her young students on field trips into parallel dimensions to illustrate different lessons, she fails to realize that it’s a horribly dangerous idea and that children break everything they touch. The machine breaks and leaves them stranded, jumping between bizarre worlds but never seemingly able to go back to their own.

Seven years in the future the surviving kids are now teenagers – wildly transformed by the worlds they’ve visited but seemingly unable to grow up and take responsibility for themselves. That is, until a surprise vendetta upends their routine and forces the kids to step up and act like adults for the first time.
“Field Tripping is a candy-coated sugar-rush of innocent kids' cartoons shoved into an adrenaline and anxiety-fueled life and death bender across everything your childhood self feared and fantasized about,” says writer James Asmus. “Space, unicorns, alternate dimensions, labyrinths, pirates, ghosts, crushes – it's a world where anything is possible and everything is terrifying. Just like actual middle school.”

Asmus and Festante have worked together in numerous mediums, including comics like The End Times of Bram & Ben, and Rick and Morty Presents Mr. Meeseeks, animation development for Stoopid Buddy and Flying Rock Entertainment, and improv performances in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

“The story involves a lot of jumping between dimensions, so it gives a lot of opportunity to see brand new worlds and explore some really wacky ideas,” says artist José García. “The art is super detailed and colorful so even if you only see just one glimpse of the world, looking at the details of the environment, the clothing and design of the characters in it, you know there's so much story behind it.”
Field Tripping is a coming of age story full of nostalgia, heartfelt moments and characters with unique personalities that readers can empathize with, including the most carefree and the grumpiest of them all. So, buckle up and get ready to head back to school!
“The book is bonkers, subversive, sci-fi comedy,” said Asmus.

The Original Motion Picture Score for Blade by award winning composer Mark Isham will be released for the first time on vinyl on October 4th and is now available for pre-order on and other retailers. The LP’s jacket, inner sleeve and labels thematically reference the infamous warehouse rave scene of the vampire thriller from 1998.
The score needed to have an epic super-hero quality but with a very dark side, and it needed to be able to live next to the world of 1990’s electronica - The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin etc. We used a large symphony orchestra supplemented with electronic synthesizers and samplers for a unique musical vocabulary. I did a lot of sampling of weird and strange sounds as well as programming my synth collection. We recorded at the Fox stage which is a wonderful room. The process went smoothly as I had worked tirelessly with Steve Norrington, the director, during the demo process to get what we both wanted. We recorded some sections of the score in smaller segments - to be edited together later - as a lot of the visual effects hadn’t been completed yet. I think my two favorite musical moments are The Death Of Whistler - which is very emotional scene, a bit unexpected in a film of this genre - and the culmination of the Ritual For Summoning La Magra. This is big and bombastic and just plain FUN!” –  Mark Isham, composer.
The movie starring Wesley Snipes in one of his signature roles was a commercial success that spawned two sequels, and the films have enjoyed cult status for many years. At this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, Marvel Studios got movie-goers amped by announcing a Blade reboot in 2020, with none other than accomplished actor Mahershala Ali to star, who took home Oscars for both Moonlight and Greenbook.
He is an electronic music innovator, jazz artist and prolific film composer. Mark Isham’s ability to create unforgettable melodies combined with his willingness to experiment with innovative musical palettes have earned him accolades including: Grammy and Emmy awards, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.
Isham’s inimitable musical voice is evident in his memorable scores for award-winning features including the Oscar-winning Crash and A River Runs Through It (Oscar nomination), along with Golden Globe winning Bobby, and The Black Dahlia. For The Black Dahlia, Isham was awarded “Best Score” by the International Film Music Critics Association. Other credits include Men of Honor (Grammy nomination), Eight BelowThe Cooler, cult-classic BladeNellThe Accountant, ABC’s hit series Once Upon a Time (Emmy nomination), and Oscar-winner John Ridley’s ABC drama American CrimeRecent projects include A Dog's Journey, whilst upcoming for Isham includes Disney’s Togoand Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Mark Isham’s collective contributions to the film music community was recognized by his peers when he was awarded the highest honor for a composer by The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the prestigious Henry Mancini Career Achievement Award for musical excellence.

The Soundtrack Volumes 1 & 2 for The Jim Henson Company’s fantasy adventure series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance have been released today (the same day as the series launch on Netflix), and will be available on CD and vinyl in the coming months, exclusively through Music.Film Recordings. Volume 1 of the soundtrack features original music by composer Daniel Pemberton, while Volume 2 consists of tracks by Pemberton and by Samuel Sim.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Aughra Awakes
“I approached the music the same way I approached the filming and the puppetry,” explains executive producer and director Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk). “I wanted somebody to come on this journey that would be willing to take big risks. I wanted something that was almost tribal. I wanted to hear the strings being plucked and the skin wrapped over the drum. At the same time, I wanted somebody who could write beautiful melodies, understood music, and was a lover of beautiful music. I wanted someone who would approach it in a very organic way and who would tell the story through the score. My search led me to Daniel.”
The 10-episode show is a prequel to the groundbreaking 1982 fan favorite The Dark Crystal, and takes place many years before the events of the film. Leading the voice cast in the series will be Kingsman star Taron Egerton, The Witch actress Anya Taylor-Joy and Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel, as ‘Gelfling’ heroes Rian, Brea and Deet. Star Wars’ Mark Hamill, Harry Potter’s Helena Bonham-Carter, Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander and Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe provide additional voice performances in the new fantasy epic. The series was shot in the U.K., and stars an ensemble of fantastical, state-of-the-art creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop™ and designed by Brian Froud, the original feature’s conceptual designer.
Composer Daniel Pemberton reveals: “I wanted the music to be as magical as Thra itself – organic, imperfect, strange, mystical, otherworldly and wonderful. I wanted to create new sounds that felt like they came from the world itself, as well as using thematic large scale orchestral elements to bring an emotion to the journey of the characters. I wanted music and sounds that would fill you with wonder, but also terrify you. It was very important to me that all the sounds felt like they could only be from Thra itself – no grand pianos or overtly electronic elements. Every sound had to feel organic and visceral, from the dark detuned glissando cello sounds made for the Skeksis, to the upbeat flutes from the Podling’s bar. We created noises out of wine glasses, metal chains, wooden drums, metal sculptures on a snow covered mountain and old creaky medieval instruments to try and make a sonic world as unique as the visual one.”
“The Dark Crystal is set in a unique world of magic, adventure, threat and danger. The music had to capture that majestic wonder, as well as its dark, sinister underbelly,” describes composer Samuel Sim. “Although nearly all the sounds in the score come from an acoustic or ‘real’ source, a huge amount of time was spent twisting, morphing and detuning them to create something completely new and surprising. For example, there are places in the score where flutes and clarinets were pitched down 5 octaves to sound like tubas and bass trombones. Nickel harps and cellos were put through guitar amps and at one point we even took the sound of chirping crickets and slowed it down so much that it created weird otherworldly pads and drones. It was important to us that the music should be both bold and epic but also unique, strange and mysterious to become the beating heart of the land of ‘Thra’ itself.”
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra, with an all new adventure. When three young Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.
He is a multi-Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA Award-nominated composer who has been regularly cited as one of the most exciting and original new voices working in modern film scoring today. Constantly working with some of the most renowned names in the industry, Pemberton has already scored projects for the likes of Danny Boyle (Yesterday, Steve Jobs), Ridley Scott (All The Money In The World, The Counsellor), Aaron Sorkin (Molly’s Game), Darren Aronofsky (One Strange Rock) and Guy Ritchie (The Man From UNCLE, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). Pemberton’s most recent project is the mystery adventure TV series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which will air on Netflix this summer.
His bold writing and unusual and innovative arrangements on scores for movies has seen the soundtracks constantly singled out for critical acclaim whether they are studio films such as such as the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Oceans 8 or smaller independent features such as the Cannes Palm D’Or nominee Mal De Pierres or the upcoming feature Motherless Brooklyn from director Edward Norton.
He has received Golden Globe nominations for his mix of opera and electronics in the score to Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs as well as one for Best Original Song – performed and co-written by Iggy Pop - for the Stephen Gaghan film Gold. He was recently nominated for an Emmy for his work on the groundbreaking ‘USS Callister’ episode of ‘Black Mirror’ for Netflix, and was previously honored as Discovery of The Year at the World Soundtrack Awards in 2014 and nominated as Composer Of The Year in 2016.
BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning composer Samuel Sim is widely considered to be one of the most exceptional musical talents of his generation. Early in his career, Samuel quickly stood out from the crowd with his award-winning score for the BBC’s Dunkirk. A whirlwind success followed which soon saw him composing for the Hollywood feature film Awake for the Weinstein Company.
Samuel’s most recent projects include two major upcoming series: 10-part Netflix drama The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance (co-scored with Daniel Pemberton) and The Spanish Princess for New Pictures, four ITV feature films based on Georges Simoneson’s Maigret novels starring Rowan Atkinson, ITV and Left Bank Pictures’ major eight-part drama The Halcyon, BBC’s dark and gritty drama Paula directed by Alex Holmes and ITV’s hugely successful Homefires
Other recent projects include C4’s drama The Mill (for which Sam’s score received an Ivor Novello nomination), ITV’s Chasing Shadows, and the Charlie Brooker/Daniel Maier comedy creation Touch Of Cloth. He also composed a wonderfully evocative score for the riveting Stop At Nothing: The Lance Armstrong Story.
