TODD McFARLANE TO DRAW RECORD-SETTING SPAWN #301

Todd McFarlane Productions and Image Comics
celebrate comic book history with
SPAWN #301
With its 301st issue, Todd McFarlane’s SPAWNbecomes the longest running creator-owned comic book in the world!

SPAWN launched to record sales of 1.7 million copies when its inaugural issue was released in 1992, helping to cement the early days of Image Comics as a game-changing, new era in creator-owned comic books. Now, 27-years later SPAWN, and Image Comics remain hallmarks of the comic book industry.

As a testament to the longevity of Todd McFarlane’s seminal creation, and to Image Comics’ revolutionary call for creators’ rights to own and control the characters and comic books they create, SPAWN’s 301st issue will be a truly historic release, as McFarlane’s award-winning, fan-favorite superhero, will become the longest running creator-owned comic book ever.

"I could think of no better reason to return to the drawing board than to celebrate the record-breaking 301st issue of the SPAWN comic,” said McFarlane, creator of SPAWN and President at Image Comics. “Twenty-seven years ago, I began this journey on the SPAWN title. That start, along with helping to co-found Image Comics, (today the third largest comic publisher in the nation) was with the goal of allowing creative people to own and control their ideas.

“It is with great pride that I can say that after nearly three decades of producing the SPAWN title, that I am still 100% in the creative driver's seat of the character I brought to life back in 1992,” said McFarlane. “I wrote and drew that first issue and will do the same for this historic issue as well."

To continue the celebration that begins with the deluxe sized, 72-page issue of SPAWN #300, McFarlane will return, once more, to pencil and ink interior story pages for the record-breaking SPAWN #301. Showcasing his unique blend of larger-than-life action and visual world-building, McFarlane will usher in SPAWN’s next creative evolution in his signature “hyper-detailed” style that has been an inspiration to artists and storytellers across all genres of entertainment media.

Joining Todd on SPAWN #301’s superstar creative team will be legendary SPAWNand Batman artist, Greg Capullo, critically-acclaimed illustrator, Jason Shawn Alexander, top comic artists, Clayton Crain, Jerome OpeƱa and Francesco Mattina, along with more surprises, including more top-tier comic book talent.

SPAWN #301, a 48-page full-color comic book will be in stores September 25, 2019. Also available will be black and white Spawn #301 “Artist Edition” variant showcasing McFarlane and Capullo’s original, inked artwork.

This record-breaking, history-making, oversized issue will retail for $4.99.

"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" Review

The Godzilla franchise has first and foremost been a source of epic monster battles. The 2014 American remake was a terrible let-down in this regard. With the vast majority of the film placing focus on dull characters, a dragging pace, Bryan Cranston's abysmal attempts to speak Japanese, and a lackluster monster face-off that is over before it's gained any significant momentum or power, it's amazing that a sequel was commissioned in the first place. However, we should be grateful that the franchise was given another shot, as "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is an exquisitely crafted contribution to the Godzilla catalogue.

One notable commonality between Godzilla (2014) and King of the Monsters is Ken Watanabe. Across both films, he portrays the smartest person in the room. Whether he's telling people to let the monsters fight or reminding them of the importance of respecting Godzilla instead of treating him as an enemy, his performance always serves as source of wisdom that enriches the story.

While Godzilla (2014) wasted an unforgivable amount of time before showcasing any monster action, King of the Monsters wastes no time in jumping into showing the wide array of monsters and serving battles between them. There is exquisite world-building from start to finish, which enhances the mythological qualities of these creatures and their long history both respectively and with one another.

A prior knowledge of Godzilla (2014) is not necessary to follow the plot or understand the characters of King of the Monsters. The lead characters are different, and their only overlap is that the King of the Monster leads were effected by the final attack in San Francisco at the end of Godzilla (2014). Thematically, King of the Monsters makes repeated reference to the conflict between humankind and nature. On the one hand, humanity is helpless to the massive power of nature, be it in the form of natural disasters, or in the case of these films, monsters. But on the other hand, mankind is the most destructive force to both nature and in turn, themselves. The only way for these two to continue existing is to maintain a peaceful, symbiotic relationship. Humans are the reason for the rise of these monsters and must now deal with the smallness of their own existence by comparison.

Ken Watanabe offers some of the most poignant lines of King of the Monsters which address these very themes. He likens the creatures to animals, instead of monsters, and stresses the importance of humans learning to co-exist with them. In today's world with massive environmental problems including pollution, climate change, and the numerous animals species that have and are on the way to going extinct, King of the Monsters manages to resonate with these issues without losing the entertainment value of giant monsters fighting.

"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is playing in cinemas worldwide.

SKYBOUND ENTERTAINMENT TEAMS WITH UNIVERSAL PICTURES ON ADAPTATION OF ROBERT KIRKMAN & LORENZO DE FELICI’S OBLIVION SONG

Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures announced this morning that the sci-fi drama Oblivion Song—based upon the New York Times bestselling Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Invincible, Outcast by Kirkman & Azaceta) and artist Lorenzo De Felici’s bestselling comic book series of the same name—is being developed for film.

Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Jon Mone and Director of Development Lexi Barta will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. The Oblivion Song adaptation will be produced by Skybound’s film team, including Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst, with Sean O’Keefe attached to write the script.

O’Keefe’s latest project, Wonderland, which stars Mark Wahlberg with Peter Berg directing, recently wrapped filming. O’Keefe sold the first script based on the Robert B. Parker bestselling Spenser book series in a deal with Netflix.

Image/Skybound Entertainment’s Oblivion Song by Kirkman and De Felici is colored by Annalisa Leoni, lettered by Rus Wooton, and edited by Sean Mackiewicz. It takes place a decade after 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them but after many years they gave up. Nathan Cole won’t. He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those lost, alone and afraid, living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe… Nathan is looking for something else. Why can’t he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?

Oblivion Song, Vol. 1 (ISBN: 978-1534306424) and Oblivion Song, Vol. 2 (ISBN: 978-1534310575) trade paperbacks are available now in comic shops and at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

The series is also available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

"Good Boys" - Green Band Trailer Now Available!

In Theaters August 16, 2019

Just how bad can one day get? The creative minds behind Superbad, Pineapple Express and Sausage Party take on sixth grade hard in the outrageous comedy, Good Boys.

After being invited to his first kissing party, 12-year-old Max (Room's Jacob Tremblay) is panicking because he doesn't know how to kiss. Eager for some pointers, Max and his best friends Thor (Brady Noon, HBO's Boardwalk Empire) and Lucas (Keith L. Williams, Fox's The Last Man On Earth) decide to use Max's dad's drone - which Max is forbidden to touch - to spy (they think) on a teenage couple making out next door

But when things go ridiculously wrong, the drone is destroyed. Desperate to replace it before Max's dad (Will Forte, The Last Man on Earth) gets home, the boys skip school and set off on an odyssey of epically bad decisions involving some accidentally stolen drugs, frat-house paintball, and running from both the cops and terrifying teenage girls (Life of the Party's Molly Gordon and Ocean's Eight's Midori Francis).
From Point Grey producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the writers of Superbad, Pineapple Express and Sausage Party, and James Weaver (Neighbors), Good Boys, from Universal Pictures and Good Universe, is written by the team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (NBC's The Office, Bad Teacher). Eisenberg also produces and Stupnitsky directs.
